The last entry is at 18:30 and the museum closes at 19:30. The Ministry of Culture's page gives the ticket office hours as 9:00 to 18:30, Tuesday to Sunday; the museum's own page does not state them. While works go on, the ticket office is in a temporary structure outside the castle.
The museum says that from 3 August 2026, and for the rest of 2026, it also opens on the first Monday of each month, normally a closing day, from 14:00 to 20:00, with the last entry at 19:00. The special ticket costs 5 €, there is no booking, tickets are sold only on site and groups are not admitted. The museum does not list the dates. Counting from its rule, the ones left in 2026 are Monday 2 November and Monday 7 December (our calculation). The museum presents the afternoon as a calmer visit but promises nothing.
Nothing has been announced for 2027. We could not confirm the ticket office hours on those Mondays.
Entry is free on the first Sunday of the month. There is no online booking: everybody joins one queue at the desk to collect a free ticket that does not carry a name, and the museum may reshape the route according to the crowds. The Passetto di Borgo cannot be visited that Sunday.
Counting from the calendar, the next first Sundays are 1 November and 6 December 2026, and 3 January 2027 (our calculation). Wednesday 4 November 2026 is also a free opening, from 9:00 to 19:30 and with no booking, according to the Ministry of Culture's event page. We could not confirm other free days, such as 25 April or 2 June, for this museum.
The museum opened one evening, on Sunday 4 October 2026, from 19:30 with entry until 22:30 and the ordinary ticket. Turismo Roma called it the last evening opening planned, and we found no other announced. For 24 and 31 December and for Easter 2027 (28 March) the museum has published nothing, so check before you plan those days.
Hours do change at short notice: the museum opened on 1 January 2026 in the afternoon, announced on 24 December 2025, and closed early on 27 February 2026, with the notice published the day before. Look at the museum's notices before you go.
